FISD Families,
We want to inform you that a bullet was brought onto one of our buses by a student. No firearm was found, and there was no threat made to any students or staff.
While there was no immediate danger, we treat all safety concerns transparently and seriously. The incident is being addressed in accordance with the Fredericksburg ISD procedures.
This incident is a strong reminder of the importance of safely and securely storing all firearms and ammunition at home. In Texas, it is a criminal offense under Texas Penal Code 46.13 for an individual to make a readily dischargeable firearm accessible to a child if the individual is found to be criminally negligent. We encourage all families to take every precaution to ensure that firearms and ammunition are stored securely and kept out of reach of children.
As always, student and staff safety remains our highest priority.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe.
Sincerely,
Fredericksburg ISD
Dear High School Parents and Guardians,
In our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment, we want to inform you that we have installed vape detectors on our campus. This measure is in response to the growing concern over vaping, which poses serious health risks to young people nationwide. We strongly encourage you to have open conversations with your children about the dangers and negative effects associated with vaping.
It is important to understand that students found in possession of a vaping device, including within their vehicle on school property, are required to attend a DAEP (Disciplinary Alternative Education Program) placement. This environment is highly restrictive, and we want to ensure that all students are aware of the serious consequences associated with this behavior. Additionally, students are at risk of charges be being filed against them.
Our goal is to maintain a safe, supportive, and focused educational environment for all students. By holding students accountable, we are working to safeguard the well-being of our school community.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in keeping our schools safe. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
Sincerely,
Chris Weirich
Principal of Fredericksburg High School
Due to reported patches of ice on some roads in Gillespie County, especially on the eastern side, and below-freezing temperatures in the early morning, the Fredericksburg Independent School District will operate on a delayed schedule tomorrow, Wednesday, January 22nd. This means buses will run 2 hours later than normal, and all schools will begin instruction 2 hours behind schedule. Due to the 2-hour delay, breakfast will be limited.
